  • Individuals are currently enrolled as high school students or equivalent home-schooled status.
  • MANDATORY REQUIREMENT: All participants must have a Parent or Legal Guardian complete and sign the mandatory Consent and Release Form to be eligible to participate and win a prize.
  • Capacity Limit: Only the first 250 eligible students who successfully complete registration will be accepted into the Challenge.
  • Ineligible: Employees, directors, officers, members of the advisory council, and their immediate family members (including but not limited to brothers and sisters, spouse, parents, and children) of the Sponsor, its partners, and sponsors.

4. How to Enter

Participation requires three mandatory steps:

  1. Registration: Complete the official registration form on the Challenge website at www.nycteenresumechallenge.com during the Contest Period.
  2. Workshops: Participant must attend all four (4) mandatory live, interactive workshops. Failure to attend all sessions will result in disqualification, unless an official exception is granted by the Sponsor under the “Circumstance Exceptions” clause in Section 9. By registering, participants agree to attend the workshops once the dates are announced and commit to making themselves available.
  3. Submission: Submit the final resume document via the specified method (to be emailed to registered participants) by the Final Resume Submission Deadline. Entries must adhere to the formatting and content guidelines provided during the workshops.

Limit: One (1) entry (one resume submission) per eligible participant.

5. Judging and Winner Selection

The Challenge is a contest of skill. Winners will be selected based on the quality of their submitted resume as judged by an expert panel of professional resume writers and career coaches.

A. Judging Process

  1. Initial Round: Resumes are submitted anonymously, using an assigned participant number.
  2. Finalist Selection: The judges will select the top 25 submissions as Finalists.
  3. Coaching Round: Finalists receive personalized coaching and resubmit their resume for the final judging round.
  4. Final Selection: The panel selects five (5) Borough Champions from the Finalists.

B. Judging Criteria

  • Content and Storytelling (50%): Clarity, effectiveness in articulating skills, transformation of experiences into quantifiable achievements, and overall professional narrative.
  • Format and Design (25%): Professional appearance, readability, and use of industry standards.
  • Technical Writing and Polish (25%): Grammar, spelling, keyword usage, and document perfection.

Integrity of Submission

The submitted resume must be the original work of the participant. Participants may use automated tools, including AI writing assistants (such as ChatGPT or dedicated resume builders), strictly for ideation, drafting assistance, or final review. The majority of the resume content, including the formulation of experiences and achievements, must originate from the participant. The use of AI to generate the entire document or human assistance will result in disqualification.

6. Prizes

Five (5) Borough Champions will be selected (one from each of the five NYC boroughs).

Prize Tier Prize Description Approximate Retail Value (ARV)
Borough Champion (5 Winners) $300 Cash Prize $300.00 USD
Finalist (20 Winners) Selection of prizes that may include a monetary gift, gift card, valuable career resources, and/or recognition in print media. Varies

Prizes are non-transferable. If the Challenge is canceled for any reason, no prizes will be awarded.

7. Winner Notification and Requirements

  • Potential winners will be notified by email and/or phone on or about the Winner Notification Date.
  • Potential winners (and their parent/guardian) must return all required documentation within seven (7) calendar days of notification to claim the prize.
  • Prize Award to Minors: If a winner is under 18 years of age, the cash prize will be awarded to their parent or legal guardian.

8. Publicity and Liability Release

By entering the Contest, the participant (and their parent/guardian if the participant is a minor) grants the Sponsor and its agents the right to use the winner’s name, likeness, and photograph for promotional purposes, including posting the winner’s name on the website, without further compensation or notification, unless prohibited by law.

License to Use Entries: By submitting an entry, the participant (and their parent/legal guardian) grants the Sponsor a non-exclusive, perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, modify, and publicly display the submitted resume, in whole or in part, for the purpose of judging, promotion, marketing, and sharing with current and future Challenge partners and sponsors for potential recruitment and talent sourcing purposes. Participant retains ownership of their original work.

9. General Conditions and Disclaimers

  • Taxes: All federal, state, and local taxes associated with the acceptance and use of any prize are the sole responsibility of the winner (or their parent/guardian). The Sponsor will not issue an IRS Form 1099-NEC as the Approximate Retail Value of any single prize is less than $600. However, winners remain responsible for reporting the prize as income.
